After many years of rough travelling on bumpy, potholed tracks, hauling silage etc, and experience in building and maintaining tracks, we soon realised the benefits of the Kirby ripping and crushing system. The fact that it has been used in many other countries for over 25 years convinced us it works and works well.

After several years experience and over 20 miles of track, we are continually impressed with the track strength and durability. Cement can be added to the stone to further improve the lifespan of the track giving outstanding results at a very competitive rate, compared to tarmacking. Waste farm rubble can be utilised to ‘top-up’ before crushing into the old track. Materials such as roof tiles, red bricks, tiles, concrete blocks, concrete broken to size of 1 foot square can be laid upon old track and crushed in. The cleaner the rubble is, the better, as fragments of metal cause future puncturing, although our magnet will remove 80% of surface nails and metal.

      Ripping

As you can see, the ripper is loosening up all potholes and pan layers formed by layers of stone being added over the years. It lifts the whole track in preparation for the crushing cycle.
    Crushing

Now the stone has been ripped through to a workable uniformed depth, the crusher can work freely and smoothly through the stone, crushing consistently.

We can crush to exactly the perfect tilth with plenty of fines on top with a good mixture of larger stones underneath.

Now we have the perfect stone tilth to grade a smooth surface for draining and the best ride. Camber is always added to encourage movement of water from the surface. We can also re-grade at any time to keep the water draining into gulleys. Acheiving the desired camber upon the track can be difficult, many modifications have been made to the grader to make the tool easier to use.

    Compacting or Rolling

It doesn’t get much bigger. With the forty ton compaction capacity made by our trailed roller, nothing compacts better.

    Finished Jobs

If maintenance of gulleys is kept up and mud not allowed to build up, track life can be increased greatly by regrading or scraping. As you can see the finished recycled track is impressive and lasts for years. With the increased cost of importing large amounts of stone and associated stone levelling, we offer a competitive alternative. We work with all aggregate types and surfaces including car and lorry parks, farm tracks, droves, cycle paths, cow tracks, forestry haul roads etc. We have had exceptional results on cow tracks as we can produce a soft surface that cows like to walk on.
